The Passover season is upon us. For those of you that do not know what Passover is, it refers to the time that Almighty Yahweh, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, delivered the children of Israel from Egyptian slavery back in Moses’ day. Yahweh delivered them through a series of ten plagues upon Egypt. The last plague was the death of all the firstborn in Egypt. The Israelites were protected from the destroying angel sent by Yahweh by applying the blood of a lamb upon their doorposts. When the angel saw the blood, he “passed over” that particular house and spared the firstborn within it. Thus, the slain lamb became known as the Passover lamb and the actual event wherein the firstborn were spared became known as the “Passover”.

What is extremely important for you to understand is that that event was a foreshadowing of what would occur in the future concerning Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ). The Passover lambs in Egypt were selected on the 10th day of the first month (Abib). They were killed at a time called “between the evenings” (3:00 pm) on the 14th day of the first month. After applying the blood to the doorposts of their houses, the lambs were then cooked and eaten later that night.

The reality or fulfillment of that foreshadowing occurred about 1400 years later with the death of  Messiah Yeshua, the long awaited deliverer of Israel.

At the appointed time, on Abib 10, the people of Jerusalem welcomed Yeshua into their city.

On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Yeshua was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of Yahweh. And Yeshua, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King comes, sitting on an ass’s colt.

These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Yeshua was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. The people therefore that were with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.  (John 12:12-18)

Several days later, on Abib 14, at exactly 3:00 pm, they put Yeshua to death.

And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour (3:00 pm). And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Yeshua had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the spirit. (Luke 23:44-46)

He died at the exact same time that the Passover lambs were killed for the last 1400 years. Coincidence? Not at all. It was the fulfillment of Yahweh’s plan of salvation for mankind.

The prophet Isaiah, writing hundreds of years prior to Yeshua’s death, wrote of his death and how he would take the sins of the people upon himself:

Who has believed our report? and to whom is the arm of Yahweh revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Elohim, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Yahweh has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him; he has put him to grief: when you shall make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Yahweh shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:1-12)

Mankind is in bondage or slavery to sin. The Bible declares that “the soul that sins, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4, 20) and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a). When a person sins by breaking his or her Creator’s laws, he or she brings the death penalty upon themselves. Sin becomes their cruel master just as the Pharaoh of Egypt became the cruel master of the children of Israel.  Just as the blood of the original Passover lambs protected the Israelite firstborn from death, the shed blood of Messiah Yeshua protects all who apply his blood to themselves. When a person receives Yeshua as their Savior, his shed blood protects them throughout their lives. They are given eternal life through faith in him. When death finally comes, it is merely a time of figuratively sleeping in the grave as they await their Savior to raise them from the dead to live forever.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of [Yahweh] is eternal life through Yeshua Messiah (Jesus Christ) our Master. (Romans 6:23)

For [Yahweh] so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.(John 3:16)

You, dear reader, can have all your sins forgiven and receive eternal life through putting your faith and trust in Yahweh’s Son, Yeshua. He will become your Master and resurrect you from the dead just as he resurrected Lazarus from the dead. Yet, it will be an even greater resurrection. Lazarus was raised from the dead, but died again years later. Those that receive Yeshua will be resurrected from the dead to never die again.

The sad thing is that many firstborn in Egypt did not apply the Passover lambs blood to their doorposts and died. Others joined themselves to Israelite families and were in their blood covered houses when the destroying angel passed over. They were delivered from death through the lamb’s blood.

The true Passover Lamb, Messiah Yeshua, has now come. His blood was shed for all mankind. We need only receive him as our Passover lamb and we will have his blood protecting us from eternal death.

Please carefully consider your options at this point in your life. Continue on without receiving Yeshua as your Savior and face eternal death or receive him and receive eternal life. From my perspective, the choice is simple.
